About Healthy Green Drink

What is Healthy Green Drink?

HGD was created with two goals in mind:

  1. Share green drink/smoothie recipes.
  2. Share information and health benefits of adding a green drink/smoothie to your diet.

It is my belief that adding to your diet rather than subtracting is a much more effective (and easier) way to reach your goals; whether that be losing weight, fighting fatigue, alkalizing your blood to help fight off disease, attempting to eat less meat, or just fulfilling a desire to be healthier all around.

It is of course important what you add, and HGD is my attempt to show you just how effective green drinks/smoothies can be. Be sure to read the health disclaimer.

The Ultimate Goal

Add a green drink or smoothie to at least one meal you consume per day (preferably at breakfast). Make sure you drink it before you eat the rest of your meal.

What does this do?

  1. Your body will get a rush of essential nutrients (especially important at breakfast after fasting all night).
  2. Because you have taken care of the body’s basic needs you will be more satiated which will allow you to eat much less “crap” than you otherwise would have.
  3. Your body will slowly start to crave these nutritious boosts and you will start supplementing more and more of the unhealthy parts of your diet with healthier counterparts almost without thinking about it.
  4. The scale of your diet will tip in the direction of health and all the other stuff (that you still enjoy of course) will find its rightful spot in your dietary array: few and far between.

Before my Green Drink

My name is Jason Manheim and for the past 5 6 7 years I’ve been quite the health and fitness enthusiast; and enjoying a better quality of life because of it. I workout everyday if I can, participate in Meatless Monday, and experiment with all kinds of the latest health and fitness trends.

Aside from that, I ride my bike to and from my 9-5 I’ve gone part time!, where I smash TiVo’s and put them back together again, I design and develop websites at Designpx, I come up with new business ideas every 3rd hour, and I have a curious love affair with literature (I collect books but rarely read them through).

My girlfriend helps with HGD too; mostly by coming up with things that are really tasty and telling me when something I make is disgusting (seriously, I’ll drink anything that comes out of a blender).

This website is my our attempt to share the love. Hope you enjoy.

The Dumpkin Patch

After my Green Drink.

Here is my go-to morning smoothie when I’m in a rush or lazy or not in the mood to completely wake up yet. It’s packed full of “super-foods” but I’m told it tastes like a rotting pumpkin patch (I can’t tell, I’ve been drinking it for so long that I actually crave it).

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup of Trader Joe’s Soy Essential (unsweetened) I’ve replaced this with 2 spoonfuls of raw almond butter because apparently soy milk can make you turn into a girl.
  • 1 cup of Libby’s 100% Pure Pumpkin
  • 2 handfuls of spinach greens
  • 2 spoonfuls of nonfat vanilla yogurt I’ve replaced this with virgin coconut oil while I experiment with the Paleo Diet.
  • 1 banana
  • 2 cups of water
