The Healthy Green Smoothie

The all green green drink smoothie drink. 😯

I wanted something purely green that didn’t taste like the remnants after a lawn face-plant. It worked; sweet, sour, bitter and even a little spicy.

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch watercress
  • 1 green apple
  • 1 lime (juiced or peel the hard outer layer leaving the white)
  • 1/4 cucumber
  • 4 mint leaves
  • 1 banana
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup ice

Blend and add more water as necessary.

Good catch. I made some clarifications above. I usually just squeeze the juice in but sometimes I’ll peel the hard green outer layer leaving as much as the white underneath as possible.

I prefer smoothies to juicing anyway…you get all that nutritious fiber. 🙂

I love this smoothie! I did my own tweeking but, didn’t change it much. Watercress was nowhere to be found in my town so I substituted arugula. I also added a scoop of brown rice protein powder because I drink half in the morning for breakfast and the rest after my noon workout. I left out the mint because I didn’t have any, and I added a little squeeze of Sriracha because I like spicy and I thought it would compliment the arugula. I also added a kiwi just because I had one that needed to be eaten. I love the combination of sour and just a little bit of heat.

What should I replace the banana with? I am allergic to bananas…

You can try a few different things: use plain Greek yogurt, use pineapple or mango, soak some chia seeds and toss those in, use a little avocado, or just don’t use it and increase the other ingredients.

I made a few tweaks. I’m new to watercress so I used half spinach and half watercress. Didn’t have a lime so used organic lime juice. Devious!!
