Mango Mint-jito

Mango Mint-jito Green Smoothie

A fresher healthier approach to its boozier counterpart (the Mojito), the Mango Mint-jito is packed with vitamins, fiber, antioxidants and a number of properties beneficial to a healthy digestive tract. All the while staying true to its tropical origin in taste.

In fact, I made one for my alcoholic brother and he didn’t even know the difference. He drank three and instead of falling down the stairs and blaming the neighbors two year old toddler for pushing him, he did seven loads of laundry and finished his résumé.

Try it and let’s see what you can do.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of fresh or frozen mango
  • 1 big handful of lettuce greens
  • 5 large mint leaves
  • 1/2 of one lemon (juice)
  • 1/2 of one lime (juice)
  • 1/2 – 1 banana
  • 1/2 – 1 cup of water
  • 3-4 cubes of ice

Perfect first thing in the morning before your daily grind or while relaxing poolside. Blend together and serve immediately to enjoy its freshness.

I made it but mine was kind of mealy/chunky. What did I do wrong? Is that how it’s supposed to be?

Did you use romaine lettuce or green leaf lettuce? If you did you may need to remove the large parts of the lettuce ribs because that causes the mealy/chunky texture.

You can also try adding a bit more liquid.

Your best bet is probably just switching to red leaf lettuce as it chunks up a lot less; it’s healthier too.

I did! I tried it again with red leaf and it’s delicious. Thanks!

the Mint in mine was far too strong. I should have used 2 mint leaves. Who measures mangos in cups? I used a whole mango it was about a cup. And I used a whole cup of water.

Always a good idea to adjust to your palate; if 2 suits you better, 2 it is. 🙂

Mangos aren’t always available/in-season so I usually get them frozen. And frozen is easier to measure in cups since you can’t really determine how many chunks equal a whole mango.

Hi where would one buy mint in Atlanta? I shop mostly at Walmart, Kroger and various Farmer’s Markets and I haven’t seen any mint.

Jason Manheim August 3, 2014

Don’t know the Atlanta area but mint is incredibly easy to grow. Buy some seeds online and grow it in a window-sill.
